Mass Resolution
The mass resolution is the dimensionless ratio M/DM.
Low mass resolution refers to M/DM= 300, enough to separate ions that differ by at least one amu.
Sometimes, however, High Mass Resolution is needed to separate ions that have
the same nominal mass, like 30Si+H (30.981597 amu) and 31P (30.973763 amu) for
instance.
At Probion, we run magnetic sector Ion Mass Spectrometers. These allow M/DM
values as high as 10 000.
